EMS Today Conference and Exposition Announces Raffle Winner Sponsor Wheeled Coach will fund trip to 2008 conference

SAN DIEGO , Calif. , March 19, 2007 ... The 25th Annual EMS Today Conference and Exposition announces that Robert Stueber is the winner of the free trip to EMS Today, in a Web raffle sponsored by Wheeled Coach. Mr. Stueber, program agency coordinator for the Finger Lakes Regional EMS Council in Geneva , New York , was selected from the hundreds of entries received.

The online raffle on JEMS.com was held from December 15, 2006 - January 15, 2007. Mr. Stueber will receive a free registration pass (value of $475) to the 2008 EMS Today Conference & Expo, March 25-29, in Baltimore , and a $1,000 stipend to cover travel expenses to Baltimore .

"We're pleased to congratulate Robert Stueber as the winner of our online raffle. We look forward to greeting him at next year's EMS Today and hope he'll be able to take full advantage of all the educational events held during the conference, " said Robert Collins, president of Wheeled Coach. With a roster of national experts, the roundtable was moderated by Rick Patrick, MS, EMT-P, EMS Chief for the Estero ( Fla. ) Fire Department.

Thousands of EMS Professionals Attend EMS Today 2007 25th EMS Today the Largest in History

SAN DIEGO , Calif. , March 16, 2007 ... EMS Today Conference & Expo 2007, held at the Baltimore Convention Center , March 6-10, opened its doors to thousands of dedicated EMS professionals. EMS Today, the only national event focused exclusively on EMS rang in its 25th Anniversary with a variety of special events, the largest exhibit hall to date, and an unrivaled conference program that set a record number of over 4,352 industry professionals, pending final audit, up 5% from last year.

The three day conference and two day exhibit hall attracted conferees and buyers from 22 different countries and featured over 275 leading suppliers in the exhibit hall. By visiting the show, EMS coordinators, administrators, managers and supervisors were able to see first hand the latest products and services, speak with vendor representatives and make purchases. While industry leading companies such as Ambu, American LaFrance, Ferno, Laerdal, Masimo, Medtec Ambulance, Philips, Physio-Control a division of Medtronic, Wheeled Coach, and ZOLL provided visitors with not only a wealth of information and, the opportunity to see new products, but also a chance to network with these industry leading players. "The show blew us out of the water," said one exhibitor. "EMS Today is known for its high caliber production, in turn attracting EMS professionals from all over the country. We truly feel there is not a bad booth location at this show."

"The dynamic exhibit hall," as described by one attendee was jam packed with product demonstrations and simulations to keep EMS personnel at the forefront of their industry and their skills razor sharp. On display were ambulances and vehicles, basic life saving equipment, billing systems & software, communication devices, incident command management, rescue equipment, simulators & manikins, triage supplies and more, giving attendees the opportunity to see new products to assist them in providing top-notch care.

Conference Program Lauded by All as " Superior "
The three day conference and two day pre-conference workshops featured an engaging education and training program guaranteed to meet the needs of EMS professionals on all levels. Conferees selected custom packages from more than 90 available sessions covering topics in street medicine, clinical essentials, advanced EMS leadership and special operations. The Advanced Airway Course, back by popular demand, was a full day workshop focused on identification and management of airway trauma, which included a four hour cadaver lab at R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

Off the show floor and outside the classroom, conferees had the opportunity to partake in tours, ride-alongs and observations with local departments and facilities. This was a once in a life time opportunity for some, the opportunity to ride-along with the busy Baltimore City Fire Department, who averages 140,000 EMS calls per year. The Burn Center at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center hosted a tour exclusively for EMS Today attendees, led by a team of multidisciplinary specialists who work with over 1,000 burn patients each year.

4th Annual JEMS Games Culminated in an Exciting Finale4th Annual JEMS Games Culminated in an Exciting Finale As if this weren't enough to keep the EMS professional engaged, the 4th Annual JEMS Games drew a record crowd for the finals, March 9th, at the close of the exhibit hall. Just like on the street, teams are worked against the clock as they were faced with a challenging situation that tested the clinical skills of the medic. As a spectator, there was no doubt the competitive aspect, pride, and the passion to provide overall quality care was present. This years JEMS Games champions were a consolidated team made up of one member each from American Medical Response, Bonita Sunnyside Fire Protection District, San Miguel Consolidated Fire District: San Diego , CA., who unseated the defending champions and second place winner FDNY EMS. This first place team will be sent by EMS Today to compete in the International EMS Conference in Australia .

25th Anniversary Events Rounded Out the Show Experience In honor of the 25th Anniversary of EMS Today, special events and showcases included, EMS Appreciation night at the National Aquarium in Baltimore , where over 1,200 EMS professionals networked, danced, dined and made memories they will be talking about for years. Conference participants experienced nostalgia at the "Then & Now Showcase " where they could see not only the medical advances over the past 25 years, but also the impact the economy has had. Did you know that the average salary of a paramedic in 1982 was $15,488 - $20,114 compared to the salary of $34,670 - $50,183 in 2006?

David Boyd, MD, Wins Physio-Control 'Legend of EMS' Award at EMS Today

BALTIMORE , Md. , March 10, 2007 ... Physio-Control announced on Saturday, March 10 at the EMS Today Conference and Expo that David Boyd, MD, has won the 'Legends of EMS' award. The award, voted on by JEMS.com visitors over a two month period, recognizes the person whose impact on the profession has been the most significant and meaningful.

An Illinois trauma surgeon responsible for trauma center establishment in the Chicago area, Boyd became the Federal EMS manager for the Department of Health and Human Services in the 1970s. Boyd developed the framework and guidelines necessary to implement EMS systems throughout the United States . He used federal HHS grant funds as the "carrot" that served as the incentive for EMS system development. His efforts and stellar leadership greatly improved the quality of EMS delivery systems nationwide.

As winner of the award, which was announced during the closing keynote ceremony at the EMS Today, Dr. Boyd will be receiving a $5,000 grant from Physio-Control to award to the foundation of his choice. Congratulations to Dr. Boyd on the award!

Elsevier Announces 2007 Recipient of James O. Page/JEMS Award James E. Woodard, Jr. receives award at 25th annual EMS Today Conference

SAN DIEGO , Calif. , March 10, 2007 ... Elsevier Public Safety is proud to announce James E. Woodard Jr. as the 2007 recipient of the James O. Page/JEMS EMS Award. The award was presented to Mr. Woodard at the 25th annual EMS Today Conference & Exposition in Baltimore , Md , hosted by JEMS (Journal of Emergency Medical Services).

The James O. Page/JEMS EMS Award, presented annually at the EMS Today Conference & Exposition, is given to individuals or agencies who have exhibited the drive and tenacious effort necessary to develop improved EMS systems, resolve important EMS issues and bring about positive EMS system changes.

The award winner receives airfare, registration and hotel accommodations for the EMS Today conference and a $1,000 prize along with a beautiful crystal award.

James E. Woodard's contribution to EMS began in 1969 when he graduated from North Carolina 's first paramedic class. Woodard served as a field medic before being named deputy director at Guilford County 's Department of Emergency Services, managing the county's EMS division and 9-1-1 communication operations. He served as the vice president and chief of emergency response services at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington , N.C. , until January 2007, when he joined the staff of WakeMed Health & Hospitals as Executive Director and Chief of Emergency Response Services.

JEMS Editor-in-Chief A.J. Heightman, MPA, EMT-P, said Woodard was selected to receive the James O. Page Award for his drive and effort to make positive changes in prehospital care.

The award, named for JEMS founder James O. Page, was created in 2003 to encourage EMS professionals to work toward improvements in prehospital care. As EMS leaders everywhere will attest, Page's influence on EMS is truly unequaled. From his writing and advisory role on the TV show Emergency! to his legendary essays and speeches, Page created an incredible legacy-one that continues to grow as the award is bestowed each year. Jim Page passed away on September 4, 2004 but his spirit continues through the work of providers like James E. Woodard.

More than 4,500 people gathered in Baltimore to help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the EMS Today Conference and Exposition, the only national event focused exclusively on EMS.
